The Solar Eclipse Timer app was developed by an expert eclipse chaser and eclipse educator to enhance the experience of observing and photographing a total solar eclipse.

The app has gained recognition as the #1 eclipse timing app, widely used during the 2017 total solar eclipse that spanned across the United States. It has since proven successful for solar eclipses in 2019, 2020, 2021, and most recently in Australia in 2023. The ease of use is a standout feature of this app. With a simple "Two Tap Setup," users can effortlessly get started: geolocate themselves with just one tap and then load the contact times with another tap. No internet access is required for these calculations, as the app performs all its functions offline. In collaboration with Fred Espenak (Mr. Eclipse), the app introduces a new Photographer's Mode for the upcoming 2024 eclipse. This mode focuses on eclipse timing relative to contact times and includes important reminders for photographers, such as removing solar filters, identifying the maximum eclipse moment, and replacing solar filters.

An exceptional feature of the app is its audio announcements that count down to contact times. Within the app, users can access a built-in tutorial explaining all functions, as well as participate in a practice session at a simulated eclipse observation site to experience the app's capabilities in action.

Operating independently, the app performs all calculations internally, independent of cell service or internet connectivity. A GPS signal or manually entered GPS coordinates are sufficient for accurate calculations.

The developer of this app also offers a complementary solar eclipse preparation book titled "Eclipse Day - 2024 and More! How to enjoy, observe, and photograph a total solar eclipse." The Solar Eclipse Timer app is free from advertisements. Furthermore, it does not track user data in any capacity.

It is crucial to always prioritize eye protection during the partial phases of a solar eclipse, and even during bright conditions. Failure to do so may result in eye damage. We are not held liable for any misuse of the app leading to inaccuracies in timing or neglecting eye safety precautions during solar eclipse observations. The "glasses off" and "glasses on" statements are guidelines based on calculated contact times. However, timing can be influenced by the user's phone clock and the shape of the shadow, influenced by the lunar limb's edge. Use the Adjust buttons for precise time adjustments to account for lunar limb variations. Remember, keep your glasses on if it is bright!
